WHY THIS EXISTS

Most LEGO sites show price. Brick Tracker grades it.

Every other LEGO tracker pulls retail data, slaps a percentage discount on it, and calls it a deal. That works for someone buying to build. It tells you almost nothing if you're buying to hold, flip, or invest.

Discount depth is one variable out of many. A set at 40% off can still be a bad investment if it's part of a theme that has historically underperformed, has no exclusive minifigs, and has 18 more months until retirement. A set at full retail can still be a strong investment if it's an iconic theme returning to retirement with first-ever character minifigs.

The Stud Score pulls every signal into one number. Repeatable methodology, consistent scale, decisions you can actually make from it. The score is public. The model behind it stays proprietary.

WHAT IT MEASURES

Every set is evaluated across five investment dimensions. Each is weighted, scored, and rolled into one number.

1Market Signals
Resale momentum, liquidity, and the gap between what sellers ask and what buyers actually pay. These tell us whether real demand exists right now — not just listing prices.
2Scarcity & Exclusivity
Minifig quality and rarity, collectible series membership, and whether the set carries first-ever characters or significant variants. Scarcity is the floor under post-retirement value.
3Retirement Outlook
Time-to-retirement, lifecycle stage, and how comparable sets in the same family have performed after they were pulled. Retirement is the supply-shock event most appreciation runs from.
4Demand Strength
Franchise power, collector-base depth, and how the theme has historically appreciated. Major IP creates a buyer floor that doesn't disappear when the investment crowd loses interest.
5Entry Price Advantage
The depth of your discount vs. MSRP. Buying the same set at retail vs. on sale produces meaningfully different investment math — the Stud Score reflects that.

YOUR ENTRY PRICE

The same set can have two different Stud Scores. Your entry price changes the math.

A set bought at MSRP is a different investment than that same set bought on sale. The Stud Score grades the set itself and the deal you're getting on it — combined into one final number.

Deeper discounts earn larger lifts in the score. A great set at retail might land in Strong Buy. That same set at a meaningful discount can climb into Elite Buy. A weak set at deep discount still earns some lift — but the fundamentals cap how far it can climb. Same set. Different investment.

THE FIVE TIERS

A 76 means something different than a 84. The Stud Score is intentionally precise.

85-100
● ELITE BUY
Strong fundamentals + meaningful discount. Buy multiples if cash allows. Clear path to appreciation.
75-84
● STRONG BUY
Solid investment math. Buy one with confidence. Modest-to-strong appreciation expected post-retirement.
65-74
● GOOD BUY
Display-worthy with a soft investment angle. Build it. Sell later if you want. Low risk of loss.
55-64
● CAUTION
Display only. Mediocre investment case. Buy because you love the set, not because the math works.
50-54
● PASS
No investment case. The Buy on Amazon button doesn't even show on Pass-rated sets. We won't push you to spend.

THE SELL WINDOW

The Stud Score tells you what to buy. The Sell Window tells you when to sell.

A separate intelligence layer that doesn't affect the score itself. It identifies catalysts likely to drive resale price — a confirmed retirement date, an IP-driven cultural moment (anniversary, film release, sequel cycle), a Q4 demand spike — and surfaces a target window when sellers historically capture the largest premium.

Three states: Sell Now (window is open), Hold (window approaching within 12 months), Too Early (no near-term catalyst, hold long-term).

The Stud Score answers what. The Sell Window answers when. Together they're the complete buy-and-exit loop.

WHAT WE DON'T PUBLISH AND WHY

The exact weights behind each category, the underlying formula, and the data signals that feed the score are proprietary. The output is public. The model behind it stays private.

Two reasons. First, it prevents competitors from cloning the system overnight. Second, it prevents sellers from gaming the score — once people know exactly which lever moves the number, they price for the lever, not the value.

What you see on every scored set: the score, the tier, and the signal highlights explaining why the score landed where it did. Enough to make a decision. Not enough to fake one.

SCAN IT. KNOW IN SECONDS.

The Stud Score in your pocket. Don't buy another LEGO set without scanning it first.

You're at Target. Walmart. The LEGO Store. You see a set on sale, the price looks good, but you have no way to know if it's actually worth buying as an investment. Memorize the set number, look it up later, hope it's still in stock. That's the current workflow.

Scan-and-Go changes it. Open Brick Tracker on your phone, point at the barcode, get the Stud Score back in three seconds. Tier, signals, sell window, sourced from the same engine that powers every page on this site.
